The Porte Cailhau is not only a gate on the river Garonne. If it was the main entrance of the royal residence where Alienor duchess of Aquitaine, Queen of France then Queen of England, used to live, it was designed in 1495 by the french army as a triumphal arch after their victory at the battle of Fornoue, which ended the famous and terrible hundred years war.

La porte Cailhau n'est pas seulement une porte sur la Garonne. Si ce fut l'entrée principale de la résidence royale où Aliénor d'aquitaine, reine de France puis Reine d'Angleterre habitait, c'est aussi un arc de triomphe édifié en 1495 par l'armée française pour célébrer la victoire française à la bataille de Fornoue qui mit fin à la terrible guerre de cent ans.
